Pack It Up, Move It Out

Finally our packing day has arrived and the crew from Transworld are here to  begin packing up our belongings. Plenty of time to sort through the old gear and sell on our local auction website, Trademe. We actually did really well, selling some furniture items for more than we paid for them nearly three years ago.

Because of our unknown final destination we decided to ship and store our belongings back in the USA as we already have a lot of items there. We know it won’t get eaten by moths or succumb to the almost 100% humidity here so we won’t come back to mouldy furniture.

Emotions remain mixed, as we go through our stuff we become quietly saddened but as the movers arrive and our remaining items get professionally packed emotions turn into excitement, probably excitement of the unknown.

We will miss our home village, we have been here three years and it takes two to become known. These more recent days are the days when the girls at the local Cafe know our drink and we are now on first name terms. The local Avocado grower drops off our weekly order at our doorstep and the school principle refers to us as Kristi and Ian.

Are these times we will leave behind forever, who knows? It is building our character and sometimes challenging it when you actually don’t plan anything beyond our world trip. That is what we keep supporting each other on. When you make this decision to go travelling, let there be no other decision other than around this trip and enjoy what life and GOD is going to give you for the next twelve months. We are fulfilling most people’s dreams, we are so lucky to have had the opportunity to do this.

Ian and Kristi, I’m sort of envious of you guys setting off on this epic adventure, I’d also be nervous. However I often have anxiety before setting off on long trips, and you’ve just got to ignore it and forge ahead. It’s going to take you five or six weeks I’m sure before you really get into the nomadic lifestyle, but once you have all the initial learnings behind you that are inevitable and necessary I’m sure that it will be a very happy experience. I imagine there will be a couple of bumps in the road but that is inevitable, and also you may at some stage get whatever the phobia of non-permanance is but so long as you are all together, home will be wherever you lay your heads that night. Home I think is the togetherness rather than the physical structure you find yourselves in. So best wishes for the adventure ahead and looking forward to reading the next blog that you post .
