Our journey with doTERRA began in 2015 when Kristi was pregnant with our twin boys and we have never looked back.

We initially turned to doTERRA out of sheer desperation during Kristi’s pregnancy and initially we enjoyed experimenting with the oils.  We would use the oils now and again as we thought about it – some oregano in our cheeseburgers, On Guard under our feet to help support our immune systems or Breathe on my chest to ward off snoring.  As time went on we would consult our reference guide (Modern Essentials) when we had an issue which naturally expanded our use of the oils and by the time our sons were born we turned to oils for most things first.  

When Charlie was about 3 months old we had to see a specialist and we were told that there was nothing medically that could be done to help him, but we would have to take a “wait and see” approach to his development.  The doctor was wonderful, it was just the potential diagnosis that was the problem.  We felt so disempowered – wait & see wasn’t really in our vocabulary, we wanted to do something and we wanted to do it now.  After thinking on things for a day or two, we hired a private Physical Therapist, received regular chiropractic check-ups from our favorite Kiwi chiropractor and we made an oil blend just for Charlie.  It was made up of helichrysum, frankincense, basil & peppermint and we called it Charlie’s blend!  We would rub the oil up & down his spine, massaging the muscles in his back, his legs and his arms.  We prayed & willed his little neuromuscular system to work as it was meant to.  As parents it was so empowering to have something that we could do to help Charlie and it gave us such rewarding time and interaction with him.  At 6 months old Charlie was released from the specialist and at 15 months old he walked – his final milestone that the doctors were monitoring.  We are so thankful for the care & prayers that Charlie received and we are also thankful that as parents we have tools that empower us to better care for our children.

What is an essential oil?

Essential oils are volatile compounds – fancy wording to basically mean that they are organic little molecules that are moving and changing at a very high rate.  They come from various parts of the plants including the stem, bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root. Within the plant they provide protection from the elements and outside threats, they provide the scent of the plant and also play a role in pollination.  

The oil is extracted from the plant using either steam distillation or expression, then bottled for our use at home.  doTERRA means “gift of the Earth” and these oils truly are a gift to all of us.  The properties that protect and provide the lifeblood of the plant also provide us enormous physical and emotional benefits as well.

There are 3 ways to use essential oils – aromatically, such as in a diffuser; topically, when diluted for safe usage in a carrier oil; internally, such as for flavoring use.
