Gili Meno – Paradise & Destruction

The only direction is forward

The news that Lombok had suffered a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on the 19th of August came as a shock to us in the USA. Our home for a week, the beautiful Gili Meno, the smallest and quietest of the Gili Islands sits a stones throw away from Lombok Island. We contacted our accomodation providers who confirmed that they were lucky and received no damage and were ready for our arrival.

The Mighty Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks

On the return leg of our national parks tour and following two great city visits of Ogden and Salt Lake City (look for the next blog) we were excited and hyped up by the awesome DoTERRA conference and ready to take on the last two great parks in our tour itinerary, Zion and the Grand Canyon as part of our almost 900 miles (1450k’s) drive back.

Our first journal for taking notes and wet-erase pens to draw our route on our wall map!

We have started to get quite a few questions on preparation so I’m going to try to address them today!  This is Kristi, I’m the organiser of the house, so Ian asked me to write this blog…  I’m going to try my best to remember everything because the preparation started over a year ago!

Over 1,000 miles of stunning scenery,  a must see……….

Petrified Forest, Canyon De Chelly, Monument Valley, Canyonlands & Arches National Park

A Walk Down Memory Lane…

Sunset over the Columbia River Gorge

We decided that this blog is best written by me (Kristi!) since Oregon is one of my home states and this particular trip was a real walk down memory lane for me.  I moved to Oregon when I was 1 and lived there until I was 9 before moving to Washington state.  Leaving at 9 wasn’t “goodbye” to Oregon though as I continued to visit family regularly throughout childhood and started my career in Portland.  This trip wasn’t meant to be a walk down memory lane, it was meant to simply be me showing Ian & Lara the beautiful state, but it was neat to see how it blossomed into so much more.  Lara and I had lots of laughs over “when I was your age” statements…. For that reason, this may be our longest blog post on record – I want to document it all for our kids!!
